On Sunday 26th, at the launch of the documentary “River Flowing Westward”, Dr. Anas gave a presentation on civilizational engagement and participated in a panel chaired by Professor Dr. Burhan Koroglu, Director of Civilisation Center, which included Professor Dr. Fra Mile Babic, The Franciscan Faculty of Theology, Professor Dr. Ugo Vlaisavljevic, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo and Professor Dr. Ismet Busarlic, Dean, Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Sarajevo. During his visit to Sarajevo, Dr. Anas met with Professor Dr. Ozer Cinar, Rector of the International University of Sarajevo, the Dean and Vice‐Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Dr. Tuba Boz, Director of Social and Political Sciences Programme.
Dr. Anas also took part and joined in a panel of three speakers on 29th in Istanbul, which included Professor Dr. Bekir Karliga, at an event to mark the 27th anniversary of the assassination of Professor Ismail Raji Al‐Faruqi. The Bahariye Mevlevihanesi, the venue, is an extremely beautiful and impressive place where calligraphy, painting, illumination and other arts are being taught. Professor Al‐Faruqi would have felt at home in such a place. The event was hugely successful attracting media interest and an audience of over 170 thanks largely to the highly professional and organisational expertise of MAHYA staff.
In his presentations and panel discussions at the three events Dr. Anas stressed the role of education in building better relationships between cultures and civilisations, and the need for education reform across the World. Multicultural education which involves critical thinking and learning about the contributions of other cultures and civilisations must be part of the curricula at all levels. He stressed that education in the Muslim World must be balanced combining the two readings of Revelation and the Real‐existential.
He gave short interviews to TRT in Istanbul and Aljazirah Bulkan in Sarajevo and recorded a one hour interview with TRT Arabic Channel on “Islam and the West” to be broadcast in a few week’s time.
Dr. Anas met in Istanbul with MAHYA discussing our joint current and 2014 publication programmea. He also met with Inkilab publishers to discuss the status of the new edition of the Cultural Atlas of Islam.
