Description: The Translation Coordinator at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is responsible for assisting the Associate Director of Publication and Translation in all aspects of organizing and managing translations projects / activities, including – but not limited to – the following:
Coordinate multiple translations projects worldwide translators, designers, publishers, and printers
Participate in the development of translation policies and strategies and carry out the implementation
Coordinate the process of evaluating and assigning translations / translators, technical reviews and spot-checks; reviewing camera-ready files, and printed products
Coordinate academic, technical, and legal compliance of every manuscript / translation
Coordinate the implementation of contracts with authors, editors, copyeditor, and publishers
Manage physical and electronic archives of translations
Manage Publishing Management Software to coordinate translation projects worldwide
Provide constant support to offices and affiliates to facilitate translation projects and attend to daily correspondence and inquiries
Update and maintain inventories and pipelines of all projects
Coordinate departmental budget, process expenses (vouchers), and bookkeeping
Keep the Director informed of urgent/major issues and developments being communicated to the Associate Director.
Prepare updated monthly reports to be sent to the Director and Associate Director.
Any relevant tasks assigned by the Associate Director and the Director when needed or required.
Fluent in Arabic and English, written and oral communication skills. French or any other additional language is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree (BA) in related field, and MA is a plus.
Thorough knowledge and three years’ experience in project management skills
Knowledge of the process of book production and translation
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and Adobe Acrobat
Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
Ability to multi-task and interact with a diverse constituency
Ability to conduct basic troubleshooting techniques (IT knowledge is a plus)
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
Proactive and team-oriented personality
Occasionally, willing to travel and to work in the evenings, weekends, and holidays

Additional information: Must be able to work in the US legally

About IIIT Since its inception in 1981, IIIT has promoted academic research on the methodology and philosophy of various disciplines, with special emphasis on the development of Islamic scholarship in contemporary social sciences. IIIT’s research program endeavors to elucidate Islamic concepts that integrate Islamic revealed knowledge with human knowledge and revives Islamic ethical and moral foundation, through education, teaching and support of scholarly research. Purpose The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) has established its Book Manuscripts Award Program to recognize outstanding unpublished book manuscripts that advance research grounded in Islamic thought and/or reform of education.
This Program invites researchers and scholars to make ground-breaking intellectual contribution and encourages them to advance research and scholarship in various fields of Islamic thought and aspects of education reform that are rooted in higher Islamic values. The Program aims at enhancing selected fields of knowledge with Islamic perspectives, and offering epistemological comparisons with relevant Western approaches to human thinking.
This bi-annual award is restricted to researches in selected disciplines and sub-disciplines with particular approaches, such as thematic or historic, seeking further accumulation of knowledge that contributes to civilizational growth and human progress.
Eligibility and Submission Requirements
The book manuscript for this award should be based on original work that has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
It should draw on research and study in a designated field and demonstrate significant contribution to the subject it addresses.
The manuscript must be written originally in English and not translated from another language.
The length of the manuscript should be between 70,000 and 100,000 words.
The manuscript may be written individually or collectively by more than one author, with one of the authors designated as the contact author.
A dissertation may be submitted after conversion to a manuscript suitable for publication as a book.
The submission must be accompanied by updated Resume (C.V.) of each author.
The award will be withdrawn if the manuscript is discovered to have violated any of the above conditions or any ethical principles of academic research, as determined solely by the Awards Committee.
IIIT will have right of first refusal to publish any manuscript selected for an award under this program. If IIIT publishes the award winning manuscript(s), it will retain the right to translate and publish and re-publish the same for ten years from the date of the publication. Submission Procedure

Award Committee The Award Committee will include members of the IIIT Publications Committee, and selected scholars in various academic disciplines relevant to the award. The Committee may invite additional scholars to evaluate submitted manuscripts.In its sole discretion, the Award Committee may present the same award to two or more awardees who will then equally split the monetary prize, or may withhold the presentation of an award if no nominee has met the award criteria. The decisions of the Committee are final.

The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is looking for professional freelance translators to translate manuscripts in classical and contemporary Islamic Thought, Social Sciences, and Humanities. Applicants must have good experience, and provide samples of their work. Requirements:
To provide high quality, accurate translations from Arabic – English or English-Arabic on MS Word.
To deal efficiently with technical terminology (avoiding literal translation) rendering terms accurately into the target language using the closest equivalent.
Undertake any documentation work. This may require using the internet, dictionaries and other possible sources.
Liaise with clients and authors to clarify any issues raised.
Proofread the final draft.
Be able to work well under pressure and according to set deadlines.
