The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) hosts a variety of workshops and seminars every year on topics that are relevant to academia as well as the larger Muslim community. The Pre-Tenure Faculty Workshop is an annual event for emerging and senior scholars. In 2016, IIIT hosted the Islamic Futures Workshop by Ziauddin Sardar and his team. Some of the seminars held at IIIT include the Mazrui Seminar, Jamal Barzinji Seminar, and Summer School Program Alumni Seminar along with colloquia on contemporary issues such as Fiqh Al-Muwatanah.
The IIIT Pre-Tenure Faculty Workshop brings together early career scholars of Islam and tenured faculty mentors for a candid, substantive, and meaningful conversation on various professional and pedagogical aspects as well as challenges of being a pre-tenure scholar of Islam in North American colleges and universities.
The Seminar for Summer School Alumni, which took place on Aug. 4-9, 2016, brought together eight graduates from previous years of the Summer School Program and gave them the opportunity to share their areas of research. They spent one week in residence at IIIT, enabling them to continue their relationship with IIIT as well as interact and network with summer students and scholars. They presented their research papers at the Seminar. In addition, the alumni attended 2016 summer student paper presentations, the Islamic Futures workshop by Dr. Ziauddin Sardar and his team, as well as the first two days of the Summer Institute for Scholars.
