Welcome to the Research Department at IIIT! We are committed to supporting scholars’ efforts in contributing to the revival and reform of Islamic thought so that we can deal effectively with contemporary challenges. We offer a variety of grants and fellowships, host a series of lectures, hold a week-long Summer Institute, organize panels and special lectures at conferences, convene seminars, and arrange academic meetings every year.
Scholars enthusiastically respond to our calls for papers/applications and enjoy visiting our premises during lectures and seminars. Many times, it enables them to not only mingle and network among academicians but also interact with the larger community, as many of our events are open to the public. Such exposure broadens their outlook and empowers them to incorporate a diversity of viewpoints in their research.
In addition, scholars benefit from the rich resource of more than 100,000 volumes our libraries carry, including primary classical texts in Arabic, a vast collection in English, as well as 800 dissertations in Arabic and English! Scholars have access to libraries at colleges and universities in the area too, including the Library of Congress, Georgetown University, and George Mason University, among others.
The papers and manuscripts produced as a result of grants, seminars, and fellowships supported by the Research Department are encouraged to be submitted for review to IIIT’s Publications Department. In this way, the two departments are closely linked.
