A group of eleven scholars from nine countries visited IIIT on Thursday, March 26, 2008. The group, who are mainly specialized in religious studies and philosophy, came to the United States to participate in a month long seminar on “Faith and Reason Today” organized by the Council for Research on Values and Philosophy, the Catholic University, Washington D.C.
The affiliated scholars included:
Dr. Hisham Altalib, Vice President of IIIT, briefed the scholars about the Institute, its history, vision, major accomplishments and its current activities.
Dr. Iqbal Unus, Director of the Fairfax Institute, briefed the visitors on the TFI and its different programs as well as the joint programs IIIT has established with a number of American Universities including Shenandoah University and Nazareth College.
Father George McLean, Director for Council for Research on Values and Philosophy summarized the purpose and the major features of the month-long program his council has arranged for the scholars. A lively debate on the concept of the Islamization of Knowledge ensued. The meeting ended with a visit to the ADAMS center where the scholars got acquainted with the different activities there.
