On Friday, January 29th, 2010; IIIT organized the first lecture of its monthly lecture series for 2010. The guest speaker was Dr. Tony Sullivan, Senior Fellow for Mediterranean and Near East Programs at The Fund for American Studies, Washington, DC. Dr. Sullivan called for the revival of the Halaqa or the Circle of Tradition and Progress, a group of leading American and Muslim scholars/activists established in the mid 1990s for the purpose of erecting a new basis for intercultural dialogue.
The University of Delaware Center for Islamic Studies organized a conference on “The American Muslim Community and the US Government: the Need for Constructive Engagement”, on Tuesday, April 28th at the main campus of the University of Delaware.
A group of twelve French Muslims who are studying for a degree in Islamic Studies at IIIT France recently completed an intensive certificate program on History and Sociology of Islam in America at The Fairfax Institute at IIIT. They stayed in the Washington, D.C. area from February 14 to February 21.
Dr. Zainab Taha Jabir al-Alwani, lecturer at John Hopkins University and member of the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), presented her Ph.D. thesis on “Marriage and Divorce in American Muslim Families: A Maqasid Approach to Understanding Muslim Family Matters” at IIIT on Monday, February 23, 2009.
