Professor Hamza Mustafa Njozi, Vice Chancellor of the Muslim University of Morogoro in Tanzania, spoke about “The Mission of the Muslim University in Morogoro and the challenges it encountered since it started seven years ago.
Dr. Adnan Ali Adikata, Director of the Kampala campus of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) spoke about the history of IUIU, its mission and its role in promoting higher education in Uganda and in empowering the Muslim community in East Africa.
The seminar at IIIT followed a two-day conference on “Islamic Institutions of Higher Learning in Africa” held at Duke University and organized by the Duke University Islamic Studies Center (DISC), October 17-19, 2013. The conference, which was co-sponsored by IIIT, attracted more than twenty African scholars and leaders of Islamic universities in Africa, beside American scholars of Islam in Africa.
