in the Age of Globalization
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
18 - 19 September 2010,
The phenomenon of globalization has unleashed unprecedented forces in the spheres of politics, culture, economics, science and technology, and international relations, posing a major challenge to faith communities around the world. Dynamics such as the homogenization of culture, the operation of market forces and the continuous advent and proliferation of new technologies, particularly in the sphere of communication, have created a new form of consumerism that is global in scope, with its own logic of operation and its own secularized value system. These unprecedented dynamics pose multi-faceted challenges to faith communities around the world, and arguably, to the future of faith in a new, globalized world. This conference is set to address these challenges.

Contemporary Approaches To
The Qur'an And Sunnah
Volume I, 2008
The Qur'an and Sunnah are the two primary sources of Muslim faith, life, law and morality. They are as well the framework of the Islamic worldview and civilization. The Qur'an is believed by all faithful Muslims to be literally the Book of God while the sunnah, or life-example of the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace, is the key to the understanding and internalization of the Qur'an.
The Qur'an for Muslims is the foundation of their faith and the sunnah is the framework of their morality. Together they constitute the two sources of the law (shari'a) of God, which is humanity's guide to prosperity and happiness in this life and to the bliss of the hereafter. The Qur'an was revealed by God. The Qur'an, being the divine communication or revelation (wahy), was sent down to the Prophet through Arch Angel Gabriel, the angel of revelation. The Sunnah, being Divine inspiration (ilham), was taught and instituted by the Prophet Muhammad. God says, "He it is who sent a messenger to the unlettered people from among themselves to recite to them His revelations, purify them and teach them the Book and Wisdom..." (al-jum'ah, 62:2). The Qur'an is the Book (Kitab) and the Sunnah is the wisdom (hikmah) with which Muhammad, the last prophet of God, was sent to guide humankind to the straight way (alsirat al-mustaqim), which leads to God. Authentication of the Hadith: Redefining the Criteria
The book ddresses the sensitive topic of Hadith authentication, focusing on the criteria adopted by classical scholars to maintain that concentration on the continuity and accuracy of the chain of narrators, rather than the textual content of Hadith, has led to particular Hadith being included which either contradict other Hadith directly, project the Prophet (S) in an uncharacteristic light, or do not reflect and/or conflict with the teachings of the Qur'an.
