
Distinguished world-renowned Professor Ali Mazrui has been elected the new president of the Association of Muslim Social Scientists (AMSS), it was announced at the recent annual conference of the professional organization of Muslims social scientists. Eight other officers have also been elected to form the AMSS Executive Board for a two-year term.
Professor Mazrui, Director of Institute of Global Cultural Studies (IGCS) and Albert Schweitzer Professor in the Humanities/Professor in Political Science, African Studies and Philosophy, Interpretation and Culture, at State University of New York, Binghamton, NY, takes over from Dr. Rafik Beekun, Professor of Management and Strategy in the College of Business Administration at University of Nevada, Reno, NV.
Professor Mazrui takes charge at a crucial juncture in the development of AMSS as a scholarly organization. The AMSS has recently revamped its bylaws and has been reviewing its legal status and strategic direction. It continues to publish its quarter-yearly journal, American Journal of Islamic and Social Sciences (AJISS) in association with International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), with a recently elected new board of editors. IIIT hosts and supports the AMSS office in its facilities. |
