Dr. Daoud Nassimi, who earned his doctoral degree from the University of Birmingham in England last month, presented the gist of his research at a congratulatory party at IIIT on January 6. The subject of his dissertation is a comparative review of English translations of the Qur’an.
In his dissertation, Dr. Nassimi compared four well-known English translations and studied them from several different perspectives. He examined the language as well as the commentaries on which the translators based their translations. Dr. Nassimi traced his own journey from his career in electrical engineering and computer technology to the study of the Qur’an over the last twenty years, culminating in earning his Ph.D. degree. He emphasized that translations of the Qur’an are actually translations of the meaning of the Qur’an as the divine text is not translatable by human linguistic capabilities. |
