IIIT scholars program '09The International Institute of Islamic Thought concluded on Friday, August 7, its second Summer Institute for Scholars that attracted more than twenty scholars from the US and overseas. The focus of the Institute’s deliberations was on the theme of “Contemporary Approaches to Qur’an and Sunna” with the aim of bringing together, and engaging, senior and young scholars with a particular interest or expertise in Qur’ anic studies or Sunna in focused, organized discussions of topics related to a contemporary understanding and articulation of issues related to Qu’an and Sunna and that are of major concern to scholars and lay persons alike.

14 Students Complete Summer Program; 6 Awarded Fellowships

On Thursday August 13, 2009, IIIT concluded its third annual Summer Program in Islamic Studies for senior undergraduate and graduate students. Fourteen students from seven different universities completed the six weeks program that was held at IIIT campus in Herndon, Virginia between July 6 and August 13, 2009.

The program included three major components: a) intensive courses in Islamic studies such as Quran and Sunna, Islamic history and civilization, Islamic jurisprudence, comparative religion, Islamic reform movements and faith-based entrepreneurship; b) research work and training in an area of interest to the student, and c) briefings on the history of Islam and Muslims in America and field trips to major Muslim organizations.....
