Islam recognizes a plurality of faiths and asks Muslims to respect others, and Muslims are responding to this call enthusiastically. Like their predecessors, many contemporary Muslims are eager to promote interfaith dialogue. But in order to do so effectively, they need to understand the challenges that face them in relating to other faith groups. This guide is an educational initiative to clarify misconceptions by introducing interfaith dialogue as it is defined in its contemporary usage.
Shaikh Muhammad al-Tahir Ibn Ashur is the most renowned Zaytuna Imam and one of the great Islamic scholars of the 20th century. In this book, Ibn Ahsur proposed Maqasid as a methodology for the renewal of the theory of Islamic law, which has not undergone any serious development since the era of the great imams. He also addressed the sensitive topic of the intents (Maqasid) of Prophet Muhammad (S) behind his actions and decisions.

The Council of Scholars of International Institute of Islamic Thought concluded its first meeting in Cape Town, South Africa on January 22, 2008. About twenty scholars, board members and directors of IIIT offices and affiliate organizations participated in the three-day meeting which was chaired by Dr. AbdulHamid AbuSulayman, President of IIIT. The discussions included the advisory role of the Council of Scholars in planning IIIT research agenda and reviewing its work beside the evaluation of the experience of IIIT in the past 25 years, the lessons learned and directions for the future.

The Temple Association of University Professionals (TAUP) has initiated an investigation into circumstances that led to the withdrawal of an offer of a substantial donation for the founding of the Professor Ismail al Faruqi Chair of Islamic Studies at Temple University. The offer was made by the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) to honor the memory of a distinguished scholar who was a pioneer of Islamic studies at a major American university as well as a co-founder of IIIT.

The University of Science and Technology (UST) - a private, nonprofit institution in Yemen’s capital city Sana'a, with a number of campuses around the country – has entered into an agreement with International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) under which IIIT is advising the faculty and administration of UST on curriculum and new program development, according to IIIT vice president Dr. Jamal Barzinji.
