"It (din al-fitrah) gives him the world to reknead and remold in the service of God. To serve God is  hence to create culture and civilization. But this is none other than to attain the highest possible self-fulfillment."

About Us

The International Institute of Islamic Thought (111T) was established in 1981 in Pennsylvania as a private, non-profit, academic and cultural institution dedicated to promoting research, publications and conferences related to Islamic thought and contemporary social sciences.

As a platform for the Islamization of Knowledge paradigm, the Institute has become a forum through which Muslim scholars have rekindled an ongoing debate on Islamic intellectual endeavor and thought. The Institute is governed by a Board of Trustees that meets annually, and periodically elects one of its members to serve as President.

What Do We Do?

The Institute is committed to the development of Islamic scholarship in contemporary social sciences and humanities. It is dedicated to the revival and reform of Islamic thought, and its methodology is to help Muslims deal effectively with modern social challenges and ultimately contribute to the progress of civilization by giving it a specific meaning and direction derived from Divine guidance. Through Islamic scholarship, the Institute hopes the ummah will regain its intellectual and cultural identity and re-affirm its presence as a dynamic civilizational force.

The Institute organizes intellectual and cultural meetings and seminars, publish scholarly works that help Muslims understand how to live according to Qur’anic principles and the Sunnah while interacting with Western thought and hence, produce a well balanced and guided global Muslim society. The Institute supports research projects that study the reconstruction of Islamic thought and worldview based on Qur’anic principles and the Sunnah.
